SISU™ For Sports
In sports, the American Dental Association (ADA) and the Academy of Sports Dentistry recommend players to wear mouth guards for the following sports: acrobatics, basketball, boxing, field hockey, football, gymnastics, handball, ice hockey, lacrosse, martial arts, racquetball, roller hockey, rugby, shot putting, skateboarding, skiing, skydiving, soccer, squash, surfing, volleyball, water polo, weightlifting, and wrestling.
National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) mandates mouth guards for football, field hockey, ice hockey and Lacrosse.
According to the American Dental Association, the total cost for an injured tooth for an individual is $15-20,000, including all visits and procedures. If that cost is split over 40 years the approximate annual cost is $500/tooth. Consequently, the total annual cost for dental injuries in the USA is $ 2.5 billion, an astonishing sum.
